One of the oldest institutions in the city: the fish market

If you are particularly early risers - or a true night owl - at four in the morning you may witness the return of the fishing boats that bring their leaping treasure to the Chioggia Fish Market: Chioggia is the daughter of the sea and its people have always been devoted to trawler fishing guaranteeing quality fish and incomparable flavour.

If you are not awake at dawn, you can visit the Fish Market later: one of the oldest institutions in the city, where the mògnoli - as the fishmongers are called - offer the best from the sea: it is located behind Palazzo Granaio, and on its 30 stalls you can explore a vast choice of seafood and enjoy every moment of this colourful tradition.

At Chioggia’s fish market, the variety of choice perfumes the air with the smell of the sea: you can find extraordinarily fine fish such as sea bream, sea bass or sole, and very tasty blue fish, such as pilchards and anchovies; a choice of seafood to make your head spin and a variety of prawns, crabs, mantis shrimp, scampi, octopus, cuttlefish and squid to make your mouth water.
